Waving Summer Goodbye

Waving Summer Goodbye

Malachi sitting in and enjoying the water.

Malachi enjoying the waves and the water

He stood at the edge, water up to his knees swiftly flowing away as a wave as tall as he is came rushing in. It’s overwhelming power tackles him as water swamps his face. Struggling to keep his head above water and regain his footing he finally finds some solid ground as the wave dissipated. Most would take this reprieve as an opportunity to escape the cycle of violence and find higher ground.

But not Malachi.

Nope! He stood up, and with a smile and a yell of excitement he ran full speed back down the shore to take on the next wave. This is how how our beach trip with Anna’s family went a few weeks ago. Every minute spent at the beach he wanted to be getting pummeled by the waves.

The Lord revealed a lesson of trust in this child-like example of joy. Why was Malachi not afraid of the waves? Because his Daddy was right behind him, to catch him when he fell. He could take each wave with laughter because he knew he was safe. In the same way, when we face each new wave of unknowns, the amount we trust that our Father will keep us secure will directly impact our joy in the midst of the tumult of change.

Back to School

This is a needed reminder because change and new experiences are always cropping up. For the Mulls, the end of summer brought about a new season. As soon as we got home Philip started EMT school. While it promises to be a course of intense study, Philip and his coworkers are getting excited and can see more and more how this education and training can be useful in our future overseas assignments. EMT training focuses on medically stabilizing a person and transporting them to a location where they can get long-term or higher-level care. Think of the Good Samaritan story in Luke 10:25-37. He found an injured person, stabilized him and transported him to a place for extended rest and care. Our hope is that this training will provide Philip and his coworkers the best training and ability to love and serve others in this way.

Missions Minded

God is on the move and His word is going forth! More than 4,300 Bible translation projects are being undertaken currently, and Wycliffe is involved in over half of those projects. There are about 680 languages that remain on the “waiting list”, primarily because these people groups live in some of the hardest-to-reach places on earth. JAARS, from whom we are receiving our training, partners with Bible translators to cover the last mile of missions to bring God’s word to those waiting peoples. We are so honored to work with these missions and learn from the experience represented in the missionaries.
